FTC Forces Crackdown on Internet Marketing

The FTC has forced a crackdown on internet marketing sales letters that violate their new rules on what you can and can’t say in your copy. They have put pressure on Paypal and other payment processors to also crack down and cancel accounts that don’t measure up.

Since Paypal has clamped down and cancelled the accounts of literally thousands of internet marketers just in the last month alone, there has never been a better time to learn niche marketing – that is, marketing products outside the “make money” area.

Clickbank has cancelled the accounts of such bigname marketers as Shawn Casey and Matt Bacak who have been selling on Clickbank for years. Not only that, but some autoresponder providers such as Infusionsoft has also cancelled accounts because the FTC has made it clear that service providers will also be held liable for sales pages that fail to follow the rules.

Due to pressure from the FTC regarding outlandish income claims, payment processors such as Paypal and Clickbank have been forced to clean house and do away with a huge percentage of products that imply you can get rich overnight, or within a few days at the least. Making a living on the internet is NOT dead by any means. There is still plenty of opportunity to be taken advantage of if you do everything according to the rules.

Regardless of what product you offer, whether it’s a “make money” product, or weight loss, you still have to be careful how you represent that product in your sales copy.  As long as you keep your copy factual, and don’t misrepresent the product, you shouldn’t have any problems.  The trick is to have a good product, that people want, and have the means to buy it.

It does no good to try to sell something no one wants to buy, or that can’t afford to buy it, and you most certainly don’t want to sell an
inferior product. So, think about your own experiences online. If you’ve ever bought anything online, did yo get what you thought you were getting? Were you happy with your purchase? Would you buy from that person again? It’s mostly common sense and the Golden Rule. Simply treat others as you want to be treated and you should be fine.
