Get More Traffic- 4 Effective (and Often Overlooked) Ways to Do It

Driving traffic is one of the biggest problems online marketers face. The set up a great looking website, put up some quality content, perfect their sales funnel, and wait for visitors to come. The problem is you won’t get traffic to your website without spending some time on marketing and traffic generation.

Another issue is that new online marketers are getting old information about traffic generation. It’s not enough to submit your website to directories and publish a few articles on article directories anymore. We need to ‘step out of the box’ and focus on what will work in 2012 and beyond. The following four traffic generation methods are being used by many of the ‘top gurus’ out there because they work, and they can work for you as well.

1)      Guest Blogging

Since the Google Panda update article directories have significantly lost their effectiveness for generating traffic. Many website owners feared that article marketing was dead. But this isn’t the case, instead the ‘playing ground’ has changed- and changed for the better!

Now instead of publishing to article directories and hoping they get syndicated, we can control where our content gets published. Many blog and website owners are looking for new and fresh content due to the increasing demands of search engines. All you have to do is contact a few bloggers in your niche and ask if you can write a guest post. If your writing is any good many bloggers will actually thank you for it. You’ll get a rush of traffic as well as a one-way backlink pointing to your website.

2)      Podcasts

When most people think of podcasts they think of professionally produced talk shows with expert interviews. But the truth is many popular podcasts are started as a one-man (or woman) show. In fact you can create a podcast just by reading your published articles into a microphone. It only takes a few extra minutes and it could easily double the traffic you gain from your content.

Publishing a podcast isn’t as difficult as you may think either.  There are many free podcast directories where you can upload your audio and make it available to thousands of listeners instantly.

3)      Solo Ads

Solo ads occur when a list owner sends your offer to his or her email list. They can cost anywhere from $20 to $1,000 or more depending on the size of the list and how well it converts.

Using solo ads you can gain hundreds of new subscribers or customers literally overnight. Many people tend to stay away from paid traffic because it intimidates them and they’re afraid of making a bad investment. But if you have an offer that’s been converting with free traffic, you can almost guarantee you’ll see even higher conversions with traffic from solo ads.

4)      Social Media

Although you may not think of social media as an overlooked traffic source, the reality is that many online marketers underestimate its power. I’ve heard many ‘gurus’ say it’s not worth the time investment. If you look at these same ‘gurus’ social profiles it’s usually obvious they haven’t even spent more than a week trying it.

Personally I’ve been using social media for the last 6 months and the returns have been exceptional. The main social network I use is Twitter because it’s very easy to build a targeted following in a short period of time. Believe it or not, Twitter is actually one of my main sources of Traffic. The key is to provide value every day and also connect with as many followers as you can. This only takes about 10-30 minutes each day.

By using any one of these traffic methods you can drive all the traffic you need to run a profitable online business. Use all of them and your business will start to explode in growth and maintain that growth long term. Unlike many website owners believe, generating traffic is really the easy part. It’s taking consistent action and providing valuable content that takes work.
