Increase Your Blog Readership

It might be fun, but what is the real reason you are creating and/or running a blog or website? Whether you have something to sell or something to say, the main reason for a website is to draw readers in. So, it might be a good idea for you to learn some of the strategies for bringing in the crowds. There’s lots of ways to do that; here are 4 tips to keep in mind.

You will be judged by your content. It is important that you keep posting frequently and prolifically. A reader who has come to read one post of yours may want to see what else you have to offer. In any case, having links to other posts you have available may just catch their attention and give them a reason to stay. It may be enough to give the reason to bookmark your site and return. You can choose the related content manually and post links, but there is an easier way. There are plugins available for most blog platforms that will automatically post related content on each page.

One absolutely fantastic way to keep a reader reading, or to keep them coming back to read, is to create a series. A series is the best way to handle a huge topic, anyway, because it breaks up into chucks something that would be too large to digest in one reading. Be sure that your navigation for the series is clear, so as to not aggravate your readers with frustration in following the proper sequence. Your site logs will tell you if people are following the links through from one to the other. Also, blog comments may prove that fact, too.

You don’t want to be offensive, but controversy is a fantastic tool for keeping a readership around. Excepts from your posts that are shocking or surprising, placed on the front page of the blog, will certainly gain their curiosity, enough so that they might just click through to investigate. In other posts, we have mentioned that you only have a few seconds to capture the attention of your reader and that post titles had to accomplish that task by being intriguing. Well, this is the same thing. An unexpected quote will draw them in and make them want to learn more about what you are trying to say.

And, finally, it should be no surprise to you that your content needs to be quality. It needs to be above average. It needs to be grammatically correct, with good spelling, and it must be unique. If you reader does not find it useful, or if he/she can find the exact same thing elsewhere, then there is no reason for them to stay—or ever return. Don’t waste their time—and yours—by throwing just anything out there. Take the time to write something interesting. If you feel you just aren’t able to do that, you can look into the services of freelance writers. When your readers come to the point they can trust you, you will have won a loyal fan.
